Beautiful short! This very much reminded me of the five elements as each dragon came alive. Nice work!

Oh goodness, this is so gorgeous I want to cry. I absolutely love the voice and mood you've woven into this, and the twist at the end is just perfect.

I definitely want to read all the things in this world.

I think you've got all the pieces there... path to a new life, son she wants to protect, and a gun in her purse.

Now rip the bandaid off and see what bleeds.  :D :taco:

OMG... maybe I did nail him.  :D

He definitely tries very hard to keep cool and in control all the time, but his poor brain is a mess.  ::)

Absolutely gorgeous work, Dan. I was riveted from the opening line all the way to the end.

You moved the story along brilliantly and the end was such a satisfying arc, and yet I'm dying to know more about this man, this universe, and why that object exists in the first place.

As always, absolutely love your work. And I want a MATT for Christmas... seriously.  :P

               CITY WITHOUT LIGHT
I dreamed of her again last night, the woman who started a war none of us could escape. She?s been burned into my thoughts since birth, and when I stepped into hypersleep all those years ago, her picture was the only thing of value I had left.

Braygen clenched his fist, the familiar pain digging into his bones. A month ago it centered in his hip, but today the ache buried itself in his arm, and he?d never be able to aim properly if he couldn?t hold his bow.

?We can do this tomorrow, brother. Those fires will burn for a few days yet.? Marco clapped him on the shoulder, mud splattered across his russet brown hand. His friend had a point. Green forge fires burned inside the steel monolith, a giant orb with long legs holding it high.

Kat, it is ABSOLUTELY your fault that I'm doing this at all, and you know it. Don't even play.

 :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

This is my favorite message ever.

They want privacy, an escape, somewhere to die alone, away from hospitals, or records. Ooh, they want to die off the record. There's a reason deaths are being recorded, held against the living. The loved one doesn't want the main character to suffer when they are gone, so they have to die in the middle of nowhere.

OMG.... you know how excited I am to see your story, but this concept has me all WRITE THE BOOK! Death held against the living...

Oh goodness, I feel this mood so hard. My first round of Writer In Motion I was freezing at everything and terrified to finish the project.

But I can tell you that after just one season, that fear goes away. And no matter what, you're going to find an amazing story in there. I'm so glad you decided to join us!

I love your first impression on this piece, and how you found so many threads of thought with what other writers saw.

I love your stories already so you know I'm eager to see what you unweave for us this time.  :taco: :dragon:
