Good post! It was an unsettling prompt for a lot of us, I think. I also am terrified of heights, and I have to admit, I'm a little scared by the burning flare, too. Fireworks accident as a kid, LOL.

Yes, I have to agree it was not an easy prompt. My first impression was that she reminded my of the Statue of Liberty, holding the beacon out at sea. I thought the idea of her being at sea was too obvious and that everyone would do it, but then as they say, there are no really original ideas, it's only your own perspective that's unique.

Enjoyed reading your post - I also had some negative feelings from the prompt and decided not to write from there. But I'm not sure I would have realized that if we weren't supposed to be paying attention to process. So that was an important discovery for me.

You mentioned some books from Pitch Wars - do you have any favorites? I'm a plantser who dreams of a lovely outline.

As for the two books I've found most informative, they are: Story Genius by Lisa Cron (it really goes in depth with what makes a story really connect with the reader) and then Save The Cat by Jessica Brody (it is perfect for those who struggle with nailing down the structure and beats you need to hit for your story to flow just right.)
