It’s officially July 9th which means today is the day the prompt goes live!!
If you’re still not clear what Writer In Motion is, our goal is to help writers see what a difference the revision process makes to a story by giving them the opportunity to walk through the process themselves. There will be times when you feel like your draft is a total mess, but remember that at the end of this process, your draft will be a polished diamond! The full details can be found here.
With all that out of the way, how about we take a look at the prompt that Jeni Chappelle has so lovingly curated for us this year shall we? Without further ado:
You can find the full image here!
With that out of the way, your first task is to post your unedited rough draft for all the world to see. It can be on your personal blog, shared via social media with the #WriterInMotion tag, or on next week’s post, you can link your post in our comments section too! Lots of people like to write about their thought process too. You are more than welcome to create any manner of extra posts that detail your reaction to the prompt, your thoughts on writing as the weeks progress, etc. The most important part though is that by next Friday, you have a raw draft online!
Happy writing!

Gorgeous. Is there a place where you have previous prompts all displayed for those who are curious newcomers? I’d love to see a museum of the event over time, if such a thing exists — or I can dig in the blog’s back catalogue, if not. 🙂
Hi, Linda,
Here you can find last season’s prompt: https://writerinmotion.com/2020/08/01/writer-in-motion-kickoff-the-prompt/
and here the season before: https://writerinmotion.com/2019/11/01/kickoff-the-prompt/. You can also check out the other posts to see how writers responded to the prompt. This year is a little different because every writer gets an editor, whereas in previous seasons, it was limited.
Thanks, Sandy! That’s fabulous!
